Birding Safari in Botswana and Namibia -7 days or more

Arrive in Kasane, gateway to both Chobe National Park and the Zambezi Region of Namibia. Transfer to your lodge overlooking the Chobe River floodplain — an excellent introduction to the region’s birdlife.

Cross into Namibia at the Ngoma Border Post and follow the Zambezi River westward Katima Mulilo

This lush, riverine habitat is home to Southern Carmine Bee-eaters, whose breeding colonies (Aug–Nov) are among the most spectacular birding sights in Africa.

Depart after breakfast and drive west along the Trans-Caprivi Highway to Bwabwata National Park, part of the Kavango Zambezi Trans Frontier Conservation Area.

Spend the full day exploring the diverse wetland, woodland, and savannah ecosystems of Bwabwata. The park is one of Namibia’s most productive birding destinations, with over 400 recorded species.

Drive south to Nkasa Rupara National Park, Namibia’s most southern wetland paradise bordering Botswana’s Linyanti swamps. The park’s floodplains, reedbeds, and channels create outstanding birding and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Overnight: Nkasa Lupala Tented Lodge / Jackalberry Tented Camp

A full day dedicated to birding in Nkasa Rupara, exploring its dynamic mosaic of habitats — from open pans to papyrus-lined channels.

After a relaxed breakfast, enjoy some final birding along the drive north — woodland habitats often produce surprises such as Broad-billed Roller, Violet-backed Starling, and Southern Ground-Hornbill.
Cross back into Botswana and return to Kasane in the afternoon.

Optional Extensions

  • Victoria Falls (1–2 nights): Add a visit to the falls from Kasane for waterbirds, sunbirds, and Taita Falcon.
  • Or swap Nkasa and Bwabwata and then continue west and explore more of Namibia.
