Kafue Birding & Wildlife Itinerary

Transfer to Kafue National Park

Travel day – Multiple options:

  • Option 1: Fly from Livingstone to Kafue (via Lusaka) – or the quickest route would be via charter straight into Kafue.
  • Option 2: Road transfer to southern Kafue (5-6 hours) – scenic drive through rural Zambia
  • Option 3: Fly to Lusaka, then drive to Kafue

Afternoon arrival at your lodge in either the Busanga Plains (north) or Nanzhila Plains (south)

Busanga Plains is exceptional. The vast seasonal floodplains are spectacular for birding from June-October when waters recede

Nanzhila Plains (easier access by road from Livingstone)

Open plains with mopane woodland, seasonal wetlands, and the Nanzhila River

Central/Southern Kafue Exploration

Continue exploring Kafue’s diverse habitats

Morning options:

  • Final early morning birding drive
  • Fly out from Kafue airstrip to Lusaka, connecting to international flights
  • Or road transfer if heading back to Livingstone

For maximum birding diversity: Busanga Plains (north) – but requires flight access and is seasonal (best June-November)

For easier access from Livingstone: Nanzhila Plains or Lake Itezhi-Tezhi area (southern/central Kafue)
